Privacy
The short version: we keep what the game needs to work and what your statistics need to exist. Nothing is sold. Optional cookies stay off until you turn them on. Infernal Trivia is run by Physalis Design; our server is in Montreal, Canada.
Contact
For any question about your information or to exercise your rights: hello@infernaltrivia.com. We answer within 45 days.
What we collect, and why
- Account: nickname, email address (never shown), encrypted password, first and last name if you choose to give them (optional, never shown publicly), chosen location (state or country), time zone, language. To sign you in, pick questions that suit where you live and show dates in your time. With “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook”, Google or Facebook sends us your email address, your first name (to suggest a nickname) and an account identifier, nothing else. Nothing is posted to your account.
- Games: every answer (question, choice, right or wrong, response time, date). For your statistics, the rankings, the leagues and question difficulty.
- Without an account: a random identifier in a cookie (
qi_anon) links your answers together without knowing who you are. - Reports: the reason and the comment you write when you flag a question.
- Competitive mode: to discourage cheating, the game notes if you leave the window during a question (the question is then lost) and shows your nickname as a watermark. Nothing is recorded beyond the result of the question.
- Reminder email: only if you tick the box or leave your address after a game (without an account), then confirm with a link; every email lets you stop it in one click. An address left without an account is erased when you stop, when you open an account, after 7 days without confirmation, and after 120 days without a game.
- Traffic: the site counts page views without cookies, using a fingerprint that changes every day; the IP address is not kept.
We only use this information for these purposes. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising unless you turn on advertising cookies.
Children
You must be 14 or older to create an account: the box is required when signing up. Younger players can play without an account, without providing anything that identifies them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
What is public
By default, nothing: your profile and statistics are visible to you only. If you tick the public rankings box (when signing up or in “My account”), your nickname, location, statistics and rank become public. You can untick it at any time.
Who has access
- The Infernal Trivia team, to run the site and handle reports. Every access to the dashboard is logged.
- OVHcloud, our host: server located in Montreal, Canada. Emails are sent from that same server.
- Google, only if you use “Continue with Google” or accept statistics cookies.
- Meta, only if you use “Continue with Facebook” or accept advertising cookies.
Nothing is ever sold or rented. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account, answers and game statistics: as long as the account exists. On deletion, the account, profile and ratings are erased; the answers remain, with no link to you, for question difficulty.
- Traffic statistics (server count, no cookies): 10 years.
- Google Analytics: 14 months for detailed data; overall reports, which identify no one, are kept 10 years.
- Player without an account: the
qi_anoncookie expires after 2 years. - Log of emails sent and dashboard log (which contains IP addresses): 12 months.
- Party mode games: 24 hours.
Cookies
qi_anon: recognizes a player without an account, so they do not get the same questions again (2 years).qi_region: the location chosen without an account (2 years).- WordPress login cookies, when you have an account.
qi_consent: your choice about optional cookies (6 months).
Optional cookies, off until you turn them on:
- Statistics: Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_*, 2 years) measures the pages visited, the type of device and the approximate region. - Advertising: the Meta pixel (
_fbp, 3 months) tells Meta that you visited the site or created an account, so we can measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram and show them to people likely to enjoy the game. Under some state laws this counts as “sharing” for targeted advertising: it only happens if you accept it.
You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookies” button at the bottom of every page.
If ads are ever shown, the ad network and its cookies will be listed here, and your consent asked first.
Your rights
Wherever you live, and including the rights given by California and other state privacy laws, you can:
- Know and take your data: “My account” > “Download my data” (JSON file).
- Correct it: nickname, first and last name, location and preferences can be changed in “My account”; for anything else, write to us.
- Delete your account: “My account” > “Delete my account”, effective immediately.
- Opt out of targeted advertising and withdraw any consent: cookies, public rankings or reminder emails, at any time.
- Ask for de-indexing of your public profile, or make any other request, by writing to us. You can also have someone you authorize make a request for you.
We will never treat you differently for using these rights. If we turn down a request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our answer.
Security
Encrypted connection (HTTPS), encrypted passwords, team access protected by a code sent by email. If a security breach put your information at risk, we would notify you without delay, as the law requires.
Changes
If this policy changes significantly, we will say so on the site. Last updated: October 12, 2026.
